Choosing a patio heater is not as daunting a task as one might imagine. Yes the choices are vast, but generally I recommend a starting point...choosing an energy source. Will you rather opt for an electrical, gas or propane patio heater? Picking any type, narrows your choices significantly and makes it less difficult to choose the perfect heater for your patio.
Whilst each of these heater types has many benefits as well as some drawbacks, it often happens that your choice comes down to decorative attributes as opposed to anything else. Although this is true, let's look briefly at some of the pro's and cons of propane patio heaters.
Drawbacks of propane patio heaters
Most homeowners will agree that perhaps the biggest disadvantage of owning and maintaining an outdoor propane patio heater is the continuous refilling of the tank. The frequency depends of course entirely on the amount of times that you use the heater, so be prepared for this duty if you decide to go for a propane heater. The worst scenario off course is if your cylinder runs empty in the middle of a party with friends. See your patio empty just as quickly as your heater's tank did!
There is of course a way to counter this problem. If you 'have a little room' in your budget you may wish to consider installing propane lines to your house (and more specifically) your outdoor area. This is an expensive solution to the problem however, and perhaps not worthwhile pursuing for moist.
A More obscure drawback to outdoor propane patio heaters is the risk that comes with the live burning flame. Admittedly this is one of the charms of owning a heater of this kind, but the reality remains that it does pose a risk if one is not careful. The best way to deal with this is logical common sense. Keep the heater away from potential flammable areas and keep it away from children playing in the area.
With any number of drawbacks, there is of course an abundance of advantages of owning a propane patio heater. This heater type is actually an inexpensive heating source - a good point to keep in mind if you're on a budget. Depending on which area you live in, propane may also be a more accessible as an energy source. Outdoor propane patio heaters are also more movable than other heater types which make it a great tool in your decorative efforts.
All of the above reason is dwarfed off course by the main reason someone would rather opt for a propane heater. Propane heaters are known for its heating abilities. It can easily warm up an entire large outdoor area in a matter of minutes and warm your guests for a whole night of partying.
